Events
At VIB, we believe that science should be accessible to everyone. That's why our scientists actively engage with the public, stepping out of the lab to participate in public events. From the vibrant Nerdland festival to outreach initiatives such as 'Dag van de Wetenschap', Soapbox Science, and Pint of Science.
But our commitment doesn't stop there. We want to spark scientific curiosity in the next generation of pioneers. Through engaging educational projects, we offer kids and teenagers the chance to embark on a journey of scientific discovery. From hands-on class experiments to exciting visits from our scientists, we provide young minds with a taste of the wonders that await in the world of science.
Science has the power to inspire, transform, and shape a better future. Visit us at these events to become a part of this incredible journey.
Past events
Dag van de Wetenschap 2025
Flanders' biggest science event, Dag van de Wetenschap - "Day of Science," let you take a look at various labs, universities, museums, and companies behind the scenes. A mix of workshops, games, VR experiences, guided walks, podcasts, and shows... all with one obvious message: without science, we are nowhere!
And, of course, VIB was present!
Soapbox Science

Nerdland
VIB was present as a partner of the Nerdland Festival, Belgium’s largest outdoor science festival. At the event, attendees can immerse themselves in the world of science and technology by participating in workshops, conducting experiments, attending discussion sessions with panels of top researchers, and viewing exciting shows and presentations.
Pint of Science 2025
The Pint of Science festival is a three-day festival in May that takes place in hundreds of cities worldwide and brings researchers to local bars, cafes, and spaces to share their latest scientific discoveries in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Ekoli questival 2025
Ekoli is an organization in Ghent that helps build the future of vulnerable children and youth with tailored science workshops. This year, they organized the third edition of their Questival, a science festival where children and their families could participate in workshops and build bridges with other scientists-to-be. VIB supports Ekoli and was present at the festival with an interactive stand.
Resonance of Renewal
The launch of Resonance of Renewal, the latest project by artist Roel Heremans. This site-specific interactive sculpture, installed in the entrance hall of the Jules Bordet hospital in Anderlecht, symbolizes the continuous progress in cancer research. A light moves through the sculpture every two minutes, representing the speed at which new cancer research is published worldwide. This constant visual flow symbolizes scientific progress and offers a hopeful message to all who encounter it.
