VIB proudly supports Soapbox Science Brussels, a public outreach platform dedicated to promoting women and non-binary scientists and their groundbreaking work. Soapbox Science events transform public spaces into arenas for learning, debate, and inspiration, drawing inspiration from London Hyde Park's Speaker's Corner, a historic hub for public discourse. By eliminating intermediaries, PowerPoint slides, and traditional amphitheaters, Soapbox Science provides an intimate and engaging experience, connecting you directly with extraordinary women and non-binary scientists who are eager to amaze you with their latest discoveries.

On 29th June 2024, Darina Abaffyová from the Aerts lab (VIB.AI and the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research) talked about her mission to uncover the mechanisms that control gene activity during brain development at Soapbox Science Brussels.

“I was a bit nervous starting off my presentation, but the audience seemed interested, asking questions about possible applications and what kind of breakthroughs my project might lead to. That helped calm my nerves, and I ended up enjoying giving the talk. The event was even better because I got to listen to some fascinating talks from scientists in totally different fields. It was a great opportunity to learn something new. If you get a chance to participate, I'd definitely recommend it!” - Darina Abaffyová from the Aerts lab (VIB.AI and the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research).
