Technologies events
VIB Technologies wants to bring new techniques, methods and applications to the VIB community. Therefore, we organise training sessions, guided tours in the cores and company supported events to showcase new instruments.
Here you can find an overview of our previous events:
Spatial Opportunities Seminar
VIB Tech Watch Core and Spatial Catalyst joined forces to organize a seminar on spatial opportunities in Leuven. The Spatial Catalyst team enforces the use of spatial omics in VIB and offers data analysis support. Tech Watch Core offers funding & support for de-risking of novel, promising and breakthrough technologies for spatial omics.
Seminar: Imaging Flow Cytometry
VIB Flow Core Ghent and Cytek Biosciences organised a seminar about Imaging Flow Cytometry at the VIB-UGent research building in Ghent. First speaker Peter Rhein (Cytek Biosciences) explained the key principles and new developments in Imaging flow cytometry and highlighted a broad range of different applications. Victor Bosteels and Joke Deprez (VIB) did a showcase how they have used the ImageStream as a valuable supplementary tool in their research.
Minisymposium on multicolor microscopy: labelling and imaging of RNA and proteins
VIB Bioimaging Core Ghent organized a mini-symposium where different labelling and detection strategies available @ VIB Technologies were put in the spotlight! Speakers from Bio-Techne, Akoya, Leica and UGent guided us through various techniques and applications for multicolor labelling. This event was sponsored by Bio-Techne and Akoya.
BD FACSDiscover S8 Cell Sorter: lunch and launch
VIB's Flow cytometry Core welcomed the new cutting-edge spectral flow cytometry sorter from BD Biosciences with serial number 001. This makes VIB among the first to embrace this revolutionary device. The BD Biosciences FACSDiscover™ S8 Cell Sorter with BD CellView™ Image Technology can perform cell sorting using real-time image analysis of cells. This opens exciting new horizons for VIB and academic researchers, offering unprecedented opportunities for scientific exploration and discovery.
Wyatt Light Scattering seminar
Wyatt Technology's European team, together with the VIB Protein Core, hosted an in-person seminar on June 6, 2023 focused on protein characterization with light scattering. Free to attend, this seminar was a great opportunity to dive into application-driven discussions, get a refresher on biophysical characterization using light scattering, and meet with the regional Wyatt team.
VIB Nucleomics Core: Open doors
The VIB Nucleomics Core opened its doors to its users and all other interested researchers. During the week of 22-26 May, you could visit the core every day from 12:00 to 14:00 and discover all new sequencing technologies that were recently implemented, such as the AVITI platform from Element Biosciences, the MGI G400, as well as the Illumina NextSeq 2000 and iSeq 100, which were added to the existing portfolio.
Lecture micro- and nanofluidic solutions for integrated diagnostics and life science research
VIB Technologies has a partnership with MeBioS Division of the Biosystems Department at KU Leuven within the FABLAB framework for the development and fabrication of custom microfluidic applications. In search for new projects, VIB Technologies opened the floor to Jeroen Lammertyn (KU Leuven-Biosensors Group) to talk about the development and fabrication of custom microfluidic applications. The lecture was hosted on several sites (Leuven, Ghent and Antwerp) with the opportunity to discuss projects 1-1.
Providing CLEM workflows in a Core Facility: Consolidating Life scientists & Experts in Microscopy
During this talk, Saskia Lippens gave the perspective of a facility setting where vCLEM is implemented in the portfolio of a single core umbrella. Many efforts go beyond implementation of protocols, procedures and technologies. She talked about consolidation, about combining many separate people, things and ideas into one solid unit and making efforts more focused and stronger.
This event was in collaboration with Core For Life.
