On Sunday, 26 November 2023, universities, research institutions, science centers, and museums enthusiastically opened their doors for Day of Science (“Dag van de Wetenschap”). Organized by the Flemish Government, this day brought a collection of fascinating discoveries and activities to an audience of both seasoned science enthusiasts and curious minds.

VIB was also present this year to offer visitors a unique glimpse into the world of biotechnology. In Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, and Leuven, our colleagues inspired both the young and young at heart with engaging workshops and captivating tours. From exploring antibiotics and cancer research to experiencing a real science escape room, along with lectures and socially relevant debates, visitors could immerse themselves in the world of science throughout the day.

We also participated with our Grand Challenges program. Successful quizzes in Antwerp and Brussels provided lively interaction, while the youngest visitors in Leuven and Ghent felt like true scientists in the photo booths.

We thoroughly enjoyed this day and eagerly anticipate next year’s edition. Research at VIB continues, ensuring that within a year, we can showcase new discoveries and activities to the public. See you in 2024 on Day of Science!
