The UCSC Genome Browser training

Organised by BITS, the Bioinformatics Training and Service facility of the VIB. BITSlogo

Goal

  • Browse genes in their genomic context
  • View features in and around a specific gene
  • Investigate genome organization and explore larger chromosome regions
  • Search and retrieve information on a gene- and genome scale
  • Use BLAT (not BLAST) to quickly map your sequence to the genome
  • Compare genomes

Summary

The UCSC Genome Browser provides a way to examine data from many genomes and includes extensive annotation tracks for various data types such as known UCSC (and Ensembl) genes, predicted genes, SNPs, miRNAs, comparative multi-species analysis and much more. During this training you will learn how to navigate this vital tool for your research.
