The Poplar Files

1 April 2010

A team of researchers, led by VIB group leader Wout Boerjan, has developed a type of poplar with a modified wood composition that makes them more suitable for the production of second-generation bio-fuels. Currently, the VIB scientists are running a field trial with the modified poplars, to assess their suitability as a source for bio-ethanol. In VIB_Poplar_Files_2011.pdfthis background document (pdf 2MB), VIB provides an introduction to this experiment, together with a short overview of the history of the field trial.
