Best Paper Award for Patrick Van Dijck (VIB/KU Leuven)

9 October 2015

Patrick Van Dijck (VIB Department of Molecular Microbiology, KU Leuven) received the Best Paper Award 2015 during the Annual Meeting of the Botanical Society in Niigata City, Japan.

His paper is entitled “Functional screening of a cDNA Selaginella lepidophylla in yeast mutants identifies trehalose biosynthesis genes of plant and microbial origin” and was published in the Journal of Plant Research.

Patrick Van Dijck (VIB/KU Leuven): "This award strongly supports our approach where we use baker's yeast to screen and identify plant genes with specific characteristics. In this case we identified some genes from the 'Rose of Jericho', a plant that survives complete dehydration, that are important for drought stress tolerance. The road to success was not easy so I am very pleased with the award as it is acknowledges the work of the PhD students that contributed to it."
