ICT and Bioinformatics Assistant

Description

The VIB Center for Brain and Disease is looking for a motivated ICT and bioinformatics assistant to support daily operations. You will provide, apart from all-round ICT support, assistance in the development, execution and support of high throughput data analysis workflows on local servers and the Flemish Supercomputer Center (VSC).

Your functions will be:

  • Linux server support.
  • Development, deployment and maintenance of bioinformatics workflows.
  • Heterogeneous data management in a research environment.
  • User support, troubleshooting.

Profile

  • Extensive knowledge of Linux and Linux system administration.
  • Experience in scripting languages, most importantly: Bash and Python.
  • Experience in webserver and database management (Apache, Mysql)
  • Basic knowledge of, or demonstrable interest in, bio-informatics, brain and brain disease is a distinct advantage
  • Experience in web development, SSL certificates, Network File Systems, Networking, Linux management tools, Mac & Windows are an advantage. 
  • You have a practical, can-do, problem solving attitude.
  • Good communication skills, and fluent in written and spoken English.
