The VIB management
VIB is an autonomous research institute that chooses its course itself. VIB is a non-profit organisation headed by a general assembly and a board of directors. The general management is responsible for running VIB on a daily basis. The institute is scientifically led by its scientific directors, who head the VIB research departments. The institutional advisory board assists VIB in its institutional policy.
The general assembly consists of 35 members.
The board of directors consists of 13 people: six Flemish university delegates, four business representatives and three people authorised by the Flemish government. VIB's Board of Directors drafted a Good Governance Charter (document under construction) that is effective since April, 16 2008.
The general management, Jo Bury and Rudy Dekeyser, ensures the institute’s daily management. They are assisted by Rik Audenaert, Chief Financial Officer, Marijke Lein, Human Resources Director and a central team of co-workers.
The scientific directors head the VIB research departments and guarantee their department’s and the institute’s scientific leadership. They make up the institute’s management committee together with the general management, the financial director and the personnel manager.
The group leader committtee consists of one group leader from each department and the associated VIB-groups. Their primary mission is to assist in defining and implementing the institutional scientific strategy. The GLC was founded in 2004 and every two years a new GLC is elected. Mark Veugelers (Integration Manager) from VIB Headquarters also attends the meetings.
An institutional advisory board, which regularly formulates recommendations to VIB, was put together in 2002 to assist VIB in its institutional policy.
