Science

The Arabidopsis genome sequence offers an extremely important resource for researchers involved in comparative genomics. Today however, we have some experimental proof of function for less than 20% of its 23,000 genes. Large-scale methods for determining gene function are therefore crucial for rapid progress. The overall goal of the functional genomics division is to forge and exploit novel tools to conduct genome-scale functional analyses of plant genes, taking advantage of all sequence information available.

The following projects are conducted in the functional genomics group:
· Creation of sequence repertoires for Arabidopsis functional analyses at the genome scale
· Hairpin RNA silencing of Arabidopsis genes
· Mapping of gene transcriptional activity in plant tissues
. Automation of plant cell transformation
. Macroscopic and microscopic cell assays
. Vector development
