VIB Publications: VIB at cruising speed

Over the years VIB succeeded in creating a research environment that allows a very international group of scientists to distinguish themselves regularly by their contributions at the leading edge of research.  Along with the continuous innovation and integration of the institute, a scientific environment is created that serves as a nursery for high quality research.  In this first year of the new management agreement, VIB research scaled once again great heights, with contributions to a better understanding of the genetic and molecular causes of Alzheimer's, cancer, leukemia, angiogenesis and neurofibromatosis.  There were also important technological breakthroughs, such as the production of antibodies in plants and ovalbumin in Lactococcus as a means for suppressing allergic reactions to ovalbumin.

In 2007, VIB published 342 articles in international journals - 210 of them or 61% in highly ranked ones. Of these, 68 were published in top journals, which is again a very high number similar to the high scores of the last years.

As in previous years, a number of papers reached the front cover of high impact journals such as Science, Nature Biotechnology, Development and Trends in Plant Sciences.
