47. Gene-Expression Analysis using the Real-Time PCR
Algemene info Eurogentec is specialised in the selection and preparation of custom tools and in the engineering of biological materials for use by the life science community.
Omschrijving During the day, we will focus on one aspect of our product-service range : the Real-Time PCR, a very attractive technology.
Real-time PCR is a highly sensitive technique enabling amplification and quantification of a specific DNA sequence. We will show to the students all different steps to perform the qPCR and some of them could also do the experiments. To understand how technologies work it is first to explain the PCR and the qPCR applications. A short lesson will be displayed to explain the terms used in real-time PCR like cell, DNA, primers, amplification. Real-Time PCR is highly suited for a wide range of applications, such as monitoring gene expression, detection of genetically modified organism (GMOs), SNP genotyping, diagnosis.
In the lab, the students will have the opportunity to get insight into oligonucleotide process: primers production, quality-control Maldi-TOF Mass SpectrometrySpectro and HPLC.
The explanation will be done in English and in Dutch.

Marie-Claire Beckers. Since February 2000: Team Leader at Eurogentec S. A. as DNA Sequencing and Protein Array Team Leader. She is currently in charge of the Product and Development team in EGT.
Mrs. Marie Claire Beckers obtained a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at Liege University, in 1992 and a Teaching diploma at Liege University, 1983.
From 1991 till 1994 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Human Physiology Department at the Faculty of Medicine of Namur University (Belgium) within the context of a research contract concluded with the French Community concerning the project: "Characterization of genes involved in cerebral development ".
From 1994 to 1996, she obtained a postdoctoral position at the Biochemistry Department of McGill University, Montreal (Canada). This work is supported by a Canada International Fellow from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and NATO research fellowships.
Later she worked at the genetics Department of Veterinary Faculty, University of Liege (Belgium) and at the Flanders Interuniversity Institute for Biotechnology (VIB).
Researcher at the Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology KULeuven (CMV) Department of Leuven University, Belgium.
Her group at Eurogentec, discusses and determines the needs of the Product Managers for benchmarking, product development and business development, converts the needs into experiments, plans and coordinates the experiments and converts the results into marketing material and reports.
