Ethical and societal aspects of biotechnology
Modern biotechnology has an important impact on our society and certain aspects have from the beginning given rise to the public debate.
However, the accents have changed overtime. Over the last few years attention has been focussed mainly on its applications in agriculture and food. Perhaps in the future developments in medical biotechnology will occupy centre-stage. VIB keeps a close eye on developments in the public debate on biotechnology. VIB staff regularly takes part in the debates. Our most important role in this continues to be that of presenting scientifically well-founded information.
